Project Summary
Hunger is the biggest issue and one we must solve first before trying to break the cycle and provide education to children, a difficult task as 13 million people in Brazil are living in extreme poverty. Working with children as young as 2 who may otherwise be on the streets our project provides a safe place for the children to come and learn but before we teach them it is important to provide them with a daily nutritious meal to ensure their brain is equipped, fuelled and ready to learn.
Project Challenge
13 million people in Brazil are living in extreme poverty, this has a huge impact on the health and wellbeing of individuals due to the lack of income and/or access to food. Many are starving and the children are not excluded, with this drastically affecting their concentration level as they are undernourished and meals are few and far between. We aim to assist local schools in providing nutritious daily meals to the children as well as engaging community members to get involved through employment opportunities.
Many rural families migrate towards urban areas in Brazil which means schools quickly become overcrowded. As many children spend their days on the streets leading to lives of crime we will focus on providing young children with access to education, providing more opportunity for the future. As a result of financial hardship and a lack of dietary education in the favela, many children show signs of malnutrition; weight loss, poor growth, increased susceptibility to illness and poor concentration.
Project Solution
Working with local community leaders we will fund more access to education ensuring the children have a chance to learn. With this project, we aim to improve nutrition by providing students with 3 balanced meals per day. We also provide weekend and holiday food and fruit packages whenever possible to help ensure that children are well fed when not at school. The project employs a local cook to prepare school meals.
Impact
A suitable and sustainable educational facility will help these children develop and open the doors to more employment opportunities. Job creation will benefit the local community and encourage all to get involved. We have begun to see the benefits of this work to improve nutrition with concentration levels improving greatly and the frequency of sickness amongst the kids reducing – please help us keep this up!

Smiles and Full Belly’s in Brazil

Hello to our lovely and amazing supporters,
I wanted to send a quick hello and a huge thank you for being such a big part of our journey in Brazil. We are officially kicking off our 20th year at Action Change in 2026, and looking back at what we’ve achieved in Salvador together makes me so proud. You aren’t just donors, you are the reason our kids in the favelas start their day with a full stomach and a smile.
Our project title focuses on feeding because, honestly, that is where everything starts. I’ve seen it firsthand: you simply cannot teach a hungry child. When a kid is worried about where their next meal is coming from, they can’t focus on math or reading. By providing those 21,600 meals over the last few months, we haven’t just filled bellies; we’ve unlocked their ability to learn.
In our last report, we shared our “Ambitious Vision” to make 2026 a year of total stability, and because of your help, we’ve hit the ground running. Our three dedicated cooks are already hard at work, and the energy in the centre is incredible. Now that the kids are well-fed and energised, they are diving into their schoolwork with so much more passion. We’ve been able to get them the fresh workbooks and pens they need to actually use that energy for their future. It’s a beautiful cycle: the food provides the fuel, and the materials provide the opportunity.

Think Big and Succeed

Hi Friends!
Has it really been three months already and again? Since our last update, the Feed & Educate Children program has continued to thrive, thanks to your consistent kindness. We’ve ensured that our 120 amazing kids are not only well-fed with three nutritious meals a day but are also engaged and hopeful in the classroom. The foundation you’ve built is strong! Our Ambitious Vision: Proactive in 2026 We are ready to stop “playing catch-up” and start building a financially sustainable future for the children. For the first time ever, we want to launch into 2026 with confidence, securing the resources before they run out. To make this a reality, we are setting an ambitious fundraising target: £6,500 before the end of 2025. This £6,500 will provide 6 months of stability for the entire program:- Supplies for Every Child: Purchasing all essential supplies for every child for the first six months of 2026.
- Living Wages for Our Cooks: Guaranteeing a living wage for our three dedicated cooks for the entire first half of the year.
- Food they’ve likely never tasted before.
- Crackers, party games, and fun celebrations.
