Tackling Education Inequality in Nepal

Education should be available to everyone regardless of your status or community, help us provide essential education

Education in Nepal is currently facing a number of issues from low quality, lack of access to poorer communities to unqualified and undedicated teachers. We know that education is the key to breaking the poverty cycle. This is why we are working to provide educational opportunities and resources to children in the more rural areas where we work, to help decrease drop-out rates as well as provide quality education to the children currently enrolled.

Education in Nepal is in crisis. On average 70% of students drop out of school and for those in education the failure rate of the school leavers certificate is around 60%. This is a critical situation and it gets worse in the poorer and rural areas of Nepal where we work. Our project aim’s to enhance opportunities and learning within the smaller rural communities to help eliminate poverty long term with your help.

There is a 50% gap between the number of children from families above the poverty line compared to the number of children from families below the poverty line who are enrolled in school. Education in Nepal is already struggling with poor quality education due to underqualified teachers, poor/no educational resources and unsafe infrastructure, however, it is much worse for the children in poorer areas, who often live too far to even attend in the first place.

This project provides educational support in the form of resources, these include providing educational resources to enhance learning, supporting feeding programs, helping cover rental expenses and assisting with improvements to facilities. This creates positive living and learning environments, which will have a positive overall impact on the children and teachers alike. We also work on initiatives that help save costs in the long term and reduce our environmental impact.

Effective education in the early years will broaden children’s future opportunities and capabilities, minimising drop -out rates and encouraging further studies in higher education. For the adults on our projects, education develops their confidence and offers them a range of income-generating activities and opportunities. As well as improving learning facilities which will lead to healthier, safer and more positive learning environments.

It’s time for another update

By Debs Brown | Project Volunteer

Since our last update, the energy in our community has been incredible! From the bustling classrooms of our partner pre-schools to the inspiring progress of our adult learners, your support is making a tangible, joyful difference in Nepal.

Here is the latest from the ground:

A New Chapter for Our Students

We are thrilled to share that our focus on inclusion is yielding beautiful results. The brand-new sensory room on the ground floor of our partner school has become a sanctuary for children with special needs who find traditional classrooms overwhelming. Upstairs, the energy is just as high we are now supporting several students all the way through Class 10! Watching them prepare for their School Leaving Certificates (SLC) with such determination is a reminder that no dream is too big when the right support is in place.

English, Tea, and Laughter

Our adult education initiatives have taken a fun and social turn! Over the last few months, we’ve been running free English conversational lessons for women in the local community. These aren’t your typical quiet classrooms; they are filled with role-play, interactive games, and plenty of laughter over cups of tea. It’s been beautiful to watch their confidence grow as they practice new phrases and share stories. These skills are more than just words—they are tools for independence and connection.

Getting Our Hands Dirty

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do, and sometimes that means getting out into the fields! Our team recently joined local families for a traditional rice planting day. We successfully planted 14 rice fields, working side-by-side with the community. This wasn’t just about the harvest; it was a powerful exercise in communal work and solidarity. The funds raised through this initiative are going directly toward the rent and moving costs for our Youth Rehabilitation Home, ensuring those children have a safe, stable place to live.

Nutrition & Stability

Because you can’t learn on an empty stomach, we are proud to continue providing two full plates of Daal Bhat every day for the children in our care. Knowing that their next meal is guaranteed allows these kids to focus on what really matters: being children, playing, and learning.

What your support achieved this quarter:

  • Rent Secured: We’ve raised enough to cover a full year’s rent for the community pre-school!

  • Classroom Supplies: New desks and stationery have reached the rural schools where they were needed most.

  • Community Bonds: Strengthened our partnership with local families through shared labor and health seminars.

Thank you for being part of this “family of families.” Your generosity isn’t just a donation; it’s an investment in the smiles, the laughter, and the bright futures of our friends in Nepal.

With gratitude and excitement,

G’Day from Nepal!

By Chez | Project Volunteer

Namaste!

The United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals set out a vision to tackle the world’s biggest challenges by 2030. At our project in Nepal, we focus on these goals by building local, community-owned programs that make a real difference.

The past few years have tested all of us. Global pandemics, sudden government funding cuts, and other challenges have pushed more families back into poverty. In Nepal, we see the same struggles. People who were once supporters are now in need themselves. The path to the 2030 vision is not straight, but we refuse to let this slow us down.

When a problem feels too big, we break it down into manageable steps. That is exactly what we’re doing. We start with the basics, making sure children are fed so they can focus and learn. Education is the foundation for change. It builds awareness, nurtures future ambassadors for our planet, creates skilled workforces, and gives families the tools to overcome hunger and poverty. It all begins with a child in a classroom.

Over the last quarter, donations were slower than usual, but with careful planning we kept our programs thriving. Every child received daily meals, lessons in our eco-garden brought the classroom alive, and children are now inspired to grow their own food. With the help of a local volunteer, we introduced children’s yoga and recent English tests showed great improvement.

These children live in poverty. Many families cannot afford to send them to school or put a meal on the table every day. Your donations fund the food, weekend parcels, stationery, and school uniforms that allow every child to feel part of our community school. You made this possible. Thank you.

We are also thrilled to be part of the Action Change Impact Advent Calendar this year. By purchasing your calendar today, starting December 1st, you will be supporting 24 amazing projects like ours, spreading hope, care, and impact every day of the season. https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/advent-2025/

Thank you for being part of our school, our community, and our shared future.

Warm regards,

Chez
